Olga R. Kitterman, 88, of 75 Pine Grove Dr. in Pittsfield passed away at Mt. Carmel Care Center on Tuesday following a brief illness. She is survived by her son Thomas P. Kitterman of New Lebanon, NY, and by her 4 grandchildren: Michael Kitterman of Ashville, NC; Melissa Redfearn of Houston, TX; Andrew Kitterman of Rensselaer, NY; and Timothy Kitterman of Troy, NY. In addition she leaves behind a loving and admiring cadre of nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren as well as her beloved daughter-in-law Diane Kitterman of New Lebanon, NY.
Olga was born April 8 1927, the daughter of Josephine and Edward Dondi of Pittsfield. Thanks to their beauty, charm and poise, she and her sisters Claire (Cote) and Gloria (Oppidi) were the delight of family, friends and acquaintances alike, being collectively dubbed the “dandy Dondi” girls.
At the age of 18, Olga was wed to Edward M. Kitterman of Pittsfield. She and her beloved Eddie enjoyed 35 years of marriage before his untimely passing in 1980 due to heart illness. During that time they raised 3 sons: Thomas, Edward M. 'Mike' Kitterman Jr. (deceased) and Daniel T. Kitterman (deceased). They also gave birth to a daughter, Pamela, who died in infancy.
At several points during her married life Olga found employment outside the home as an office worker, most notably at Adams Super Market on William St. in Pittsfield and at Sears Roebuck in the Allendale Shopping Center. These positions did not define her, however. Olga's shining achievement in life was raising her boys, and being a source of wisdom and joy for her grandchildren and the rest of the family. She was the 'rock' of the family, always there when anyone needed her despite having endured an amazing amount of grief and loss during her life.
Olga never tired of giving of herself to others, and generously supported many veterans' charities over the years. She was also a music lover and known for her own fine singing voice, and loved to share her favorite crooners and big bands with old and young alike.
