Mrs. Carolyn Elva (Barney) Oakes, 81 of Monroe, MA died Tuesday November 10, 2015 at North Adams Commons.
She was born in Montpelier, VT on February 11, 1934 daughter of Harold E. and Rachel E. (Lavanway) Barney. She attended schools in Bristol, CT.
Carolyn was last employed by Williams College for several years until her retirement. Before that, she worked at Sprague Electric Co. and General Electric Co. Carolyn enjoyed gardening.
She was the widow of Richard Forrest Oakes who died on October 29, 1999. They were married on May 28, 1955.
Survivors include two daughters- Sharon E. Oakes and James A. Bua of Monroe, MA; and Kelley F. Spadafora of Merritt Island, FL; and one son- Russell R. Oakes and his wife, Helen of Monroe, MA. She also leaves six grandchildren including Sara Modena, Danielle Oakes, Jacob Oakes, Lindsey Wilson, Ryan Spadafora, and Cassie Hannan; and two great grandchildren- Lilah and Piper; one sister- Audrey Watson of Bristol, CT; and nieces and nephews. Her brother, Clive Barney is deceased.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service for Carolyn Oakes will be held on Saturday November 14, 2015 at 11:00 AM at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA. Burial will be private. A calling hour will be held on Saturday morning from 10-11. Memorial donations may be made to the South Readsboro Community Club or the Readsboro Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
