Obituary for Edward Joseph Zawistowski

Edward J. Zawistowski, 87 of 3 Cranberry Circle, passed away Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. He was born in Pittsfield on November 19, 1927 a son of the late Stanley and Ann (Ptak) Zawistowski. He attended Pittsfield schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was an accomplished carpenter and home remodeler for 60 years and was the former proprietor of the Lock Shop on East St. in Pittsfield for several years; he also worked part time at Elm St. Hardware and retired in August 2015. He was a communicant of St. Mark's Church; a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #15 of Pittsfield and the V.F.W. Post #448 of Pittsfield and enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. His first wife, the former Gladys Cobb, died in 1952; his second wife, the former Concetta M. "Tina" DeCarolis, died on January 18, 2012 and they were married on May 15, 1952. Survivors include his son, Matthew Zawistowski of Pittsfield and his daughter, Diane D'Angelo and her husband, Stephen of New Lebanon, NY; his brother, Charles Zawistowski of Pittsfield; his three sisters, Ann Ostrander, Sophie Zaccari and Jean Burke all of Pittsfield; two granddaughters, Melanie Liazitz and Cynthia D'Angelo; one great-granddaughter, Marisa Marauszwski and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Louis Zawistowski; his brother, Stanley Zawistowski and two sisters, Viola Zawistowski and Statia Bruner. FUNERAL NOTICE: Services for Edward J. Zawistowski will be Monday November 9, 2015 at 10a.m. at the FLYNN & DAGNOLI- BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA 01201 with the Rev. Joseph Romano officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
