Obituary for Jo-Ann M. Chilton (Marchetti)

Mrs. Jo-Ann Marie (Marchetti) Chilton died peacefully in her home surrounded by friends and family on Sunday May 14, 2017 at the age of 69 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Jo-Ann was born to Cecelia Ostellino and William J. Marchetti on August 17, 1947 in Pittsfield, MA. She spent her childhood and most of her adult life in the neighborhood overlooking Brattle Brook Park. She graduated from Pittsfield High in 1965. Jo-Ann married her high school sweetheart James Chilton on October 8, 1966. The couple had two children who meant the world to them. Her boys remember her as a caring and involved mother who enjoyed camping, vacations at the ocean, fishing, and scout trips. Jo-Ann loved playing bocce and cards, and was a fierce competitor.

Jo-Ann was gifted at planning events. She worked as the dining room supervisor at the Hilton for 17 years and organized many wonderful dinners for the Pittsfield Italian American Club. One of her greatest joys was cooking and hosting holiday and Sunday dinners for her loved ones. Jo-Ann was a Reiki master, and her giving and loving spirit was reflected in the healing she offered to her community. She had a way of making every person who came into her home feel cared for and special. She was active in the church, teaching catechism for many years. Jo-Ann was sustained by her deep faith and love for her family.

Jo-Ann is survived by her husband of 50 years James Chilton Sr.; her beloved sons James Chilton Jr. and William Chilton and their significant others Elaine and Lauren; her brother Peter Marchetti and his wife Kathy, sister Carol Carmel and her husband Greg and sister Marie Fassell; and her grandchildren Brianna Chilton and Ashley Zamboni. Jo-Ann was cherished by her family and the community. She leaves behind many dearly loved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
