Obituary for Gailanne Marie Cariddi
Gailanne M. Cariddi, 63 of North Adams, State Representative from the 1st Berkshire District died Saturday June 17, 2017 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
She was born in North Adams, MA on November 1, 1953 daughter of the late James Vincent Cariddi and Rhea Mary Louise (Dargis) Cariddi. She attended local schools and graduated from the Drury High School. Gail graduated from Bentley University with a degree in business management.
Gail was serving her fourth term as representative and had represented the 1st Berkshire District since 2010. At the time of her death, she was chairman of the Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture. Prior to her election, she had served as a North Adams City Councilor, including as City Council president, for more than 20 years. She was instrumental in moving forward the bike and pedestrian paths in North County as an active member for many years with the Berkshire Bike Path Council. She also served on the North Adams Public Library building committee and had been involved in numerous other local initiatives and was a frequent attendee and participant at local events and volunteer efforts. She also was a longtime member of the North Adams Democratic City Committee. Gail was also a board member of Northern Berkshire Community Television and featured local news of interest regularly on her shows, the latest being "Something You Should Know."
Before being elected to public office, Gail was the financial manager of her family business, Cariddi Sales Co. for over thirty years where she hosted the annual Santa Fund toy pickups.
Survivors include one sister- Antoinette M. Cariddi of North Adams; one brother- David A. Cariddi of North Adams and one niece and one nephew including Monique Cariddi and Dominick Cariddi. She also leaves aunts, uncles, and cousins. Her brother, James Vincent Cariddi Jr. died on December 8, 1992.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Gailanne Cariddi will be celebrated Thursday June 22, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 70 Marshall St. North Adams, MA. Burial will be at a later date in Bellevue cemetery in Adams. Calling hours AT THE CHURCH are Wednesday from 4-8 PM.
