Halsey Grant McLain, 93 of Williamstown, MA died Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Williamstown Commons. He was born on October 30, 1923 in Williamstown, MA son to the late Albert F. and Abigail (Alger) McLain. He attended schools in Williamstown. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army in Europe. Halsey worked as a supervisor at Warren Wire/ General Cable Company for many years and was last employed by Agway in Williamstown.
Mr. McLain was a member of the White Oaks Congregational Church in Williamstown and was a member of the Williamstown Sportsman’s Club. He enjoyed fishing and music. In his younger years he played the mandolin and guitar in a band with his father and family. On April 6, 1946 he married his wife, the former Marjorie Evelyn Darling. She died on December 30, 2008.
He is survived by his three daughters, Susan Merchant of Edenton, NC; Colleen McLain of Williamstown, MA and Christine Higby of Saratoga Springs, NY; and two sons, Donald McLain of Smyrna, NY and Jeffrey McLain, his primary caregiver after his wife’s death, of Williamstown. He also leaves 12 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Nine of his brothers and sisters are deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A funeral service for Halsey McLain will be Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at 11:00 AM at White Oaks Congregational Church in Williamstown. Burial with military honors will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery. A calling hour will be at the church Wednesday morning from 10-11 AM.
