Obituary for Elizabeth Frances Hastings (Hann)

Elizabeth H. Hastings, born and raised in Johnstown, NY, and longtime resident of Williamstown, MA, died July 23rd at age 95. A graduate of Mount Holyoke College, she was married for 62 years to Williams College graduate and professor emeritus of psychology Philip K. Hastings.

After graduating from Mount Holyoke in 1944, Elizabeth moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked for four years on military maps for the Army Map Service in a large camouflaged building on the outskirts of Washington.

In 1977, Philip Hastings founded Survey Research Consultants Inc., of which he served as chairman. Elizabeth indexed the material coming in from all around the world, and together, Elizabeth and Philip co-edited 21 annual volumes of the Index to International Public Opinion Research.

Elizabeth Hastings is survived by three daughters, Pamela, Ann, and Mary, six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Philip Hastings and another daughter, Elizabeth, predeceased her. She will be dearly missed.
