Obituary for Frances Elizabeth Circe (Slattery)
Frances Elizabeth (Slattery) Circe of Lancaster, PA age 93, passed peacefully in her home on July 29, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late William E. Circe, also of Lancaster, to whom she was married for 64 years. She was a devout Catholic—a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Lancaster.
Fran was born in Adams, MA and was the daughter of William and Elizabeth Slattery. She attended Drury High School and North Adams State Teacher’s College, married soon after, and began raising a family. By virtue of her husband’s position with RCA, Fran and her family moved frequently throughout the Northeast.
Proud mother of six children, she dedicated her life to her family. She enjoyed volunteering for many charitable organizations and working part-time at JCPenney.
Fran loved to sew, enjoyed swimming, yoga, and tending to her gardens, as well as working on crossword puzzles. In later years, she and her husband enjoyed several trips through Europe and the United States in their motorhome, often with their grandchildren.
Fran is survived by her six children: William Circe and his wife Pauline (New Jersey), Mary, with whom she resided, Ellen Fisher (Lancaster), Patricia Caskey and her husband Howard (Ohio), Thomas Circe and his wife Patricia (Georgia), James Circe and his wife Kim (West Chester). Also surviving Fran are her grandchildren: Elizabeth Circe (Renzo), D.C. Fisher, Pete Fisher (Kait), Laura Caskey, Morgan Circe, Molly Caskey, Bailey Tiller (Blaine), Mike Circe, and Delaney Circe. Fran is also survived by her brother, William Slattery (Judy) of Florida, and her sister-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Mahar of North Adams, MA. Fran was preceded in death by her husband William, her grandson Timothy Caskey, and her son-in-law Donald Fisher.
