Obituary for George "Bing" Arthur Crosby
George Arthur "Bing" Crosby, 89, of North Adams, MA died on Friday October 13, 2017 at North Adams Commons. He was born in Readsboro, VT on September 12, 1928 a son of the late Lucy Ellen (Evans) Crosby.
Mr. Crosby attended schools in Readboro, VT. He was a decorated veteran, serving in the US Navy as a flight engineer. He was last employed at General Cable Co. in Williamstown, MA. He had previously worked as the owner of a local gas station. He moved to Florida after his retirement where he lived in Zephyrhills with his sister and brother in law, Donna and Herb Putnam and his friends, Harvey and Carol Richards. After the passing of his son and wife George returned to North Adams to be closer to his remaining family.
George was the definition of a family man. Although he enjoyed golfing and fly fishing, his favorite past time was spending time with his family. He loved to putter around the house repairing anything for his kids. He loved bird watching in his daughter's backyard on summer evenings and enjoyed the simplicity of laughter, good conversation and "coffee and dessert", especially apple pie. He often reminisced about his time in the Navy and was proud of the accomplishment of being a Flight Engineer. He spent most of his time with his daughter and granddaughters, Emily and Sarah as well as his great granddaughters, Millie, Natalie and Riley whom he loved with all his heart. He loved to take road trips and camping with them. He instilled his love to his son and daughter. He will be greatly missed.
Mr. Crosby was the widower of Marie Eleanor (DeMarsico) Crosby. She died on April 10, 2000. Survivors include a daughter Dawn Marie Bullett and her husband, Michael of North Adams, MA; grandchildren Zachary Crosby of Ohio, Sara McLaughtin of Loudenville, NY, and Emily Bullett of North Adams, MA; six great grandchildren; sisters Margaret Bostwick of Vermont, and Harriet Nolan of New Hampshire; former daughter-in-law Joann Ryckman; as well as nieces and nephews.
