Obituary for Barbara J. Doan (Clermont)

Barbara J. (Clermont) Doan, 74, of North Adams died on Sunday October 22, 2017 at the Berkshire Medical Center due to complications of COPD. Barbara was born on March 28, 1943 in North Adams the daughter of Ernest and Gertrude (Strange) Clermont. She attended North Adams schools and was a 1961 graduate of Drury High School.
Barbara was a partner in, and driving force behind the opening of The Hub Restaurant. Her favorite vocation was working at Sullivan Elementary School as a teacher’s assistant in the first grade. She especially enjoyed assisting Ann Cain with the annual first grade play and the show chorus.
Barbara enjoyed family camping trips, vacationing in Maine, hosting holiday family gatherings and trips to the Connecticut and Las Vegas Casinos.
She leaves her husband of 39 years Charles Doan, her mother Gertrude Basinet of North Adams, three children David Field of Adams, Julie Field of Pittsfield and Kathryn Schilling of North Adams, siblings Elizabeth Rancourt of Williamstown, Cynthia Clermont of North Adams and Daniel Clermont of Palm Bay FL; grandchildren Bryan Field and Jason Field of Adams, Samantha Field and her 4 year-old granddaughter, Josie Schilling of North Adams, who was the absolute light of her life. She also leaves two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Barbara was predeceased by her sister, Diane Wiles-Tetreault. Barbara’s family who like to thank the staffs at Williamstown Medical Associates and Kindred Care (especially Sue, Tara, Marie & Brooke) for their care of Barb over the last several years. They would also like to thank the medical staff of BMC’s ICU and Step Down Unit for helping to make Barbara as comfortable as possible during her final two weeks.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Per Barbara’s wishes there will be no services and her ashes will be scattered off the coast of Maine.
