Obituary for Cecilia "Ceil" Evelyn Adams (Martin)

MRS. CECILIA "CEIL" EVELYN (Martin) ADAMS, 103, of Wells Ave., North Adams, MA passed away on January 10, 2018 at North Adams Commons, where she had resided since March, 2015.
She was born in Manchester, VT on July 14, 1914, daughter of the late William and Matilde (Desormeaux) Martin. She attended schools in Bennington and moved to Williamstown when she married her husband, John Francis Adams, on May 26, 1938. He predeceased her on September 23, 1978.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane Adams, with whom she shared her home, her nieces, Holly Martin Atherton of Pownal, VT, Jean Marie Patenaude of North Bennington, VT, and Joan Pinsonneault of Bennington, VT, as well as her nephew, William Martin of Shaftsbury, VT. She was predeceased by a sister Constance Martin, two brothers William "Ike" Martin and Lawrence "Larry" Martin, a niece, Mary Ellen Mattison and a nephew Ronald Martin.
Ceil worked at various restaurants in Bennington prior to her marriage. She was employed at Sprague Electric in the mid to late 1960’s after which she worked at Excelsior Printing until her retirement in 1984. Ceil was a fabulous cook and baker who loved gardening and shoveling snow. She regretfully gave up the latter at the age of 92 due to balance issues. Ceil was also an enthusiastic cribbage player known by those who she regularly trounced as the cribbage queen.
Ceil kept her mind, health and sense of humor until the very end. She was beloved by her family and her many friends, young and old, and her generosity and compassion knew no limits.
