Obituary for Donald Sydney Berger

Donald Sydney Berger, 88 of North Adams, MA died Monday April 9, 2018 at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center.
He was born in North Adams, MA on July 11, 1929 son of Samuel and Elizabeth (Rosch) Berger. He attended local schools and graduated from Drury High School with the class of 1948 where he played varsity basketball.
Don began working at Sprague Electric and remained with the company for 43 years until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the Sprague Quarter Century Club and the Sprague Retirees. He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. Don was an avid sportsman and played basketball with the St. Anthony Crusaders, later serving as coach. He also coached Little League Baseball and was one of the founders of the North Adams Summer Youth Basketball League. In the late 1980's, he assisted Coach John Allen with the Mt. Greylock Football team. Don especially enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren compete in various sports. He was a New York Yankees baseball fan.
His wife was Marie Antoinette (Rotolo) Berger who died on July 21, 2013. They were married on May 20, 1950.
Survivors include one daughter- Kathleen Dimitropolis and her husband, Steven of Adams; and four sons- Richard A. Berger and his wife, Judy of Ft. Myers, FL; David A. Berger and his wife, Susan of North Adams; John M. Berger and his wife, Christine of Pittsfield; and Thomas J. Berger of Lanesboro. He also leaves eight grandchildren including Matthew Berger, Corey Berger, Chelsea Berger, Haley Berger, Allyson Berger, Eric Dimitropolis, Rebecca Lymberis, and Andrew Colby; four great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and three cousins including Rose Rondeau, Carol Colantuono, and Norman Rosch Jr. Don's family would like to thank Kathleen Green and her staff and the doctors and staff at SWVMC for their care and compassion.
