Obituary for John Winston Churchill
John Winston Churchill, 78, of Williamstown, MA passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at the Williamstown Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by his three children: Alissa Churchill of New York, NY, Anne Corbosiero of Simsbury, CT, and Charles Churchill of Williamstown, MA. In addition to his children, he is survived by his wife of 56 years: Trudy (Glasby) Churchill; two sisters: Joanne (Churchill) Sylvester and Susan (Churchill) Bernardy, both of Williamstown; two son-in-law's: Thomas Carley and Michael Corbosiero; a daughter-in-law: Tammy (Dunn) Churchill; six grandchildren: Ian and David Carley, Christopher and Allison Corbosiero, and James and Henry Churchill; as well as extended family including four nieces, a nephew and many, many cousins.
John was born in Bennington, VT on June 25, 1940, the son of Ralph W. and Ivis O. (Parker) Churchill. He graduated from the former Williamstown High School and the Smith Vocational School in North Hampton, MA with a certificate in automotive body repair. After working for a number of years as an automobile mechanic for Ralston’s Garage, he was employed by, and retired from, the Hoosac Water Quality District in Williamstown.
John was a gentle man who helped so many without hesitation. He was an avid bowler at the Greylock Bowl in North Adams, where, on several occasions, he bowled a perfect 300 game. John was also a member of the former United Methodist Church in Williamstown. Later in his life, John’s favorite activity was to visit the Churchill family property in Hawley, MA where he would work on his tinkering projects and enjoy the beauty of the country.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services to celebrate John’s life will take place on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA. A calling hour will take place just before the funeral from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Burial will take place in the Spring at the family plot in the Doane Cemetery, Hawley, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested in John’s memory to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at www.lbda.org/donate, which we hope will help others learn more about how to manage this debilitating disease and ultimately find a cure.
