Obituary for Mary A. Quirico

Mary A. Quirico, 96 passed away peacefully Sunday, December 13, 2015 at Springside Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center where she had resided for the past 9 years. She was born Marian Jurkowski on October 11, 1919 in Chicopee to Joseph and Apollonia Kasowicz Jurkowski. The youngest of three, Mary lost her parents at a young age, and was raised at Brightside. Mary was sent to Pittsfield to attend Saint Joseph's High School, and lived with the Blaney family. She graduated from Saint Joseph's High School in 1938. Mary was a proud graduate of Saint Luke's School of Nursing, and she began her lifelong career of nursing. Beginning in Boston, Mary soon returned to work in the maternity department at Saint Luke's Hospital. It was there she first met Dr. Charles Fasce. Mary worked in Dr. Fasces' practice from 1946 until his retirement in 1967. She then worked as a private duty nurse to Stanley Benton. Mary was married to John C. Quirico on November 27, 1948 at Saint Mary's Morning Star Church in Pittsfield. They resided at 749 West Street in a home built by John. She was a faithful communicant of Saint Mark's Church, where she served as a Eucharistic minister. Mary was a member of Saint Luke's Auxiliary. Always cheerful, she was a kind and generous person who enjoyed caring for her extended family and friends. Mary was predeceased by her parents, her husband, John, died on August 10, 2009, her sister, Helen Dybic, a brother, and her lifelong friends, Joseph and Eleanor Blaney Liverseidge. Mary is survived by a niece, Karen Shotz of FL, her dear friend, Patricia Fasce of Pittsfield, nieces, grandnieces and nephews and many friends. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral Services will take place Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at 9a.m. from the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm Street, Pittsfield, MA. 01201. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10a.m. at St. Mark's Church with the Rev. John C. Salatino, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery. There are No Calling Hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations are suggested to the Berkshire Community College Nursing Program in her name in care of the funeral home.
