Obituary for Eva C. Varuzzo

Eva C. Varuzzo of North Adams died Monday January 11, 2016 at the Sweet Brook Health Care Center. She was born in North Adams on October 14, 1922 a daughter of the late Anthony and Catherine (Lenhardt) Varuzzo. She attended local schools and was employed at the Jarisch Paper Box Co. for several years. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth and the former St. Anthony Church in North Adams
She never had a bad thing to say about anybody. Always positive and upbeat.
Known as Auntie to her family who loved her dearly she was most famous for the countless afghans and potholders that she knitted and crotched. She often surprised family members with such items presented in their favorite colors. Auntie was also famous for her homemade fudge and the family traditional Easter pizza recipe that she passed down to those she loved. She was without a doubt among the most giving, nurturing, and loving souls you could have ever encountered.
Family and tradition meant so much to Auntie. She took great pride in helping to provide necessities, wisdom as well as fun to her beloved niece and nephew while they were growing up in the 40’s and 50’s. Every summer before school started she would take her shoe club savings and purchase new shoes for them. Her traits never wavered and continued for her lifetime with her grandnieces and grandnephews as well.
Auntie’s family will be forever grateful to her for documenting and honoring their lives through the lens of her camera. Beginning around 1942 and continuing for seventy years she captured on film every holiday, birthday and family gathering. Her beloved family cherishes the countless photographs that translate into fond memories of days gone by. Survivors include nephew David Fierro and niece Mary Willey, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was predeceased by a sister and brother, Josephine Fierro and Gerald Varuzzo.
