Obituary for Anthony C. Umbro

Anthony Consiglio Umbro, 86 of Pittsfield, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on March 8, 2017.

He was born in Polia, Province of Catanzaro, Italy on October 3, 1930 the son of the late Vito and Maria Feroce Umbro. He attended Italian Schools. He traveled to the United States on the Vulcania and arrived February 10, 1948 and became a naturalized citizen of the United States on January 28, 1954.

He was employed by the former Berkshire Woolen Mill in Pittsfield, but most of his life he was a carpenter, employed by construction companies throughout Berkshire County, including, Joe Francese, David Tierney and JH Maxymillian. He was a proud member of Carpenters Local 108 which he joined in 1964 and he retired in 1992. He was a member of the Italian American Club and the ITAM Lodge No. 564 of Pittsfield, a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and St. Joseph's Church. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, playing bocce, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife Angeline Galatte Umbro, whom he married on April 7, 1956 at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Pittsfield, three daughters and a son, MaryAnne Lantz and her husband Jeff of Minnesota, Angela Lampiasi and her husband Terry of Pittsfield, Catherine Harbick and her husband Joseph of Colorado and Vito Umbro and his wife Kristen of New Hampshire. He also leaves his sister Mary Maffuccio of Pittsfield, and a stepsister Catherine Umbro Feroce of Polia, Italy. Tony loved spending as much time as he could with his eight Grandchildren, Jeffrey and Kelly Lantz, Terra and Catherine Lampiasi, Tanner and Landen Harbick, Anthony and Vitorio Umbro and one Great Grandchild, Jacob Lantz. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and was predeceased by two stepbrothers, Pietro Umbro of Pittsfield and Vito Umbro of Polia, Italy and by one Great Granddaughter, Gabriel Lantz.

The family extends sincere thanks and appreciation to all of the Staff at BMC Cancer Center and HospiceCare in the Berkshires for the wonderful compassionate care, kindness and love he received. The family would also like to extend their gratitude to the doctors and the staff at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts.

Funeral Notice: In accordance with Anthony's wishes, services were private. Entombment took place at St. Michael Archangel Mausoleum at St. Joseph’s Cemetery where he will rest in peace.
