Giovanni "John" Cattaneo, 86 of New Ashford, MA died Sunday January 28, 2018 at his home.
He was born in New Ashford, MA on August 8, 1931 son of Giovanni and Francesca (Gaspardi) Cattaneo. He attended New Ashford schools and graduated from the Williamstown High School.
John was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the US Army.
John was employed by the Petricca Construction Company as their head diesel mechanic retiring after many years of dedicated service.
He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church. John enjoyed ballroom dancing and received many trophies for his efforts. He also enjoyed his family; farming; gardening; watching animals; and bowling.
Survivors include nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and friends including Lori Trottier who provided companionship and help that was gratefully appreciated by Giovanni. He was the last of his immediate family and was predeceased by his seven older sisters including Lucy Piantoni, Catherine Cattaneo, Emma Hover, Zita Darling, Anita Golin, Doris Hughes, and Rose Castagna.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral for Giovanni Cattaneo will be Friday February 2, 2018 at 1:00 PM at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday from 11-1 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
