Obituary for N. Joseph Dahrouge

On the evening of Pentecost on May 20, 2018, Nassif Joseph Dahrouge passed peacefully from this life into the Heavenly kingdom following a short bout with kidney failure. At the time of his death, he was a patient at Greylock Rehabilitation and Nursing Facility.
He was born in Adams, on September 24, 1934, to Joseph G. and Rose Haddad Dahrouge. He graduated from the former Adams High School in 1952, and for a short time worked at Sprague Electric before joining the Navy where he graduated as an Electronics Technician from the Naval Electronics School in Great Lakes, IL. He served from 1954 to 1957 achieving the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. Upon discharge from the Navy, he used the GI Bill to attend the University of Massachusetts and graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
After graduation he went to work for General Electric as a Field Engineer, Training Systems Engineer, then as a Program Engineer, and finally as a Parts Standards Engineer. He was a member of GIDEP – Government Industry Data Exchange Program, where he served as Treasurer for eight years, until taking early retirement in 1990 after over 29 years of service. Too young to truly retire, he took a position with Quality Printing Company as the long distance delivery specialist until 2004.
Over the years he coached youth sports for the Pittsfield Little League, Pittsfield Minor League, Paul Brindle Baseball League, Parks and Recreation Dept. Girls softball, Boys Club Hockey, and Pittsfield High School Softball. He served as an umpire for baseball and softball at the youth, high school, college and adult levels. He was also the Assigning Commissioner for High School Baseball and Softball officials. Because there was a need, he became a factory authorized repair facility for all levels of hockey. He refereed girl’s high school volleyball and was recognized for organizing and improving the volleyball officiating program in Berkshire County.
He was a Member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel church where he was active in the Holy Name Society, serving as President for 6 years and honored as Holy Name Man of the Year in 2004. He also served on the maintenance committee, Parish Advisory Council, as altar Server trainer, Lector and Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the Father William Contino Post of the Italian American War Veterans, where he served as Treasurer until his illness. After the closing of Mt. Carmel Church, he joined St. Joseph Parish where he assisted with the food pantry, altar server training for children and adults, Parish Council, and he served at funerals.
He was a super avid fan of the New York Giants football team enthusiastically coaching them from the comfort of his living room recliner.
He was married to Geraldine A. Dahrouge (AKA: WW or his First Wife – there would be no other) whom he married on September 30, 1961 at the Holy Rosary Church in Lawrence MA. He has two sons, John and his wife Joyce of Dalton, James and his wife Lisa of South Hadley, and daughter Susan who lives in Birmingham Alabama. He also leaves three incredible grandchildren Hannah Rose, Abigail Grace, and John Paul aka Jac.
He was preceded in death by his brother Joseph G. Dahrouge Jr. of Adams.
