Obituary for Robert Leon Mongeon

MR. ROBERT LEON MONGEON of Cheshire, MA died Wednesday October 24, 2018 at Berkshire Medical Center.
He was born in Fitchburg, MA on November 30, 1928, son of Leonard Mongeon and Elena (Martell)Mongeon. He moved to Winooski, VT at the age of two and attended schools in Winooksi. He moved to North Adams, MA at the age of 14 and attended the Notre Dame Parochial School.
Robert was first employed at the former Gaevert Film Company in Williamstown and then joined the General Electric Co, in Pittsfield, MA where he was employed for 42 years first in the Transformer Division and later in the Ordnance Division where he retired in 1989. He was a former Union Steward for the Local 254 Production Union while at General Electric. He belonged to the GE Pensioners and the GE Quarter Century Club.
He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Cheshire, MA. He enjoyed hiking and camping, walking and bicycling, carpentry and dancing. Mr. Mongeon was also very active in the Cheshire Little League acting as a coach for eleven years. He was also involved in “Band-Aids” for Hoosac Valley High School Band where he was a chaperone for their trips. He was also a member of the Cheshire Stompers Square Dance Club.
Survivors include his wife, the former Jane K. (Lee) Mongeon whom he married August 7, 1948 in the Notre Dame Church in North Adams; Three sons, David A. Mongeon and his wife, Nancy; Michael R. Mongeon; and Timothy R. Mongeon and his wife, Patricia. He also leaves four grandchildren, Jeffrey Mongeon, Sarah King and husband Leon, Thomas Mongeon and wife Mellissa and Allison Ragsdale and 9 Great-grandchildren, Michael, Kaitlyn, Quinn, Meghan, Zachary, Hunter, Daphne, Jenna and Gabe; one sister- Claire Vigiliano of North Adams, a brother, Richard Mongeon of New York ; nieces and nephews.
Robert was pre-deceased by a son, Robert Mongeon who died in 1952 and a sister Rita Clifford and a daughter-in-law Marcia Mongeon
FUNERAL SERVICES for Robert Mongeon will be celebrated Tuesday October 30, 2018 at 1PM at the Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA .Burial will follow in the Southview Cemetery.
