Dr. Vere Claiborne Chappell PhD, philosopher and scholar, died Monday, January 28, 2019 at North Adams Commons. He was born in Rochester, NY on March 22, 1930, son of the late Vere and Edith Chappell. Vere obtained his PhD from Yale University in 1958 and was last employed as philosophy professor at the University of Massachusetts.
His wife Sheryl Chappell predeceased him. Survivors include his six children Jennifer Chappell, Jonathan Chappell, David Chappell, Vere Chappell, Misa Chappell, and Addison Chappell and two step-children Clayton Templin and Jaime Amby.
A memorial service will take place at the University of Massachusetts at a time and date to be announced.
