Obituary for Ellison Jean Finney (Lawrence)

Ellison Lawrence Finney, 89 of Stamford, VT died on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Williamstown Commons.
She was born in Bennington, VT to Leroy and Marion Blood Lawrence on August 8, 1929. Ellison was a resident of Stamford since 1940. She graduated from Drury High School in 1947 and was employed at North Adams Trust Co. until her marriage to David E. Finney of Stamford on October 28, 1950.
Her home and family were her primary interest, but she also enjoyed part time employment from 1964-70 as a treasurer-bookkeeper at a family owned business on Union St. in North Adams.
In 1977, Ellison and her husband, David joined the Peace Corps for a two year term in Botswana, Africa where she helped to establish a Central Purchasing Store for the benefit of small business entrepreneurs working closely with an African counterpart in management procedures, advising entrepreneurs in purchasing and use of textiles.
Ellison was an active member of the Stamford Community Church and choir. She was a member of the Naomi Chapter of Eastern Star in North Adams, the Stamford Parent Teacher Group, leader of Girl Scouts and 4-H Club, town chairman of fund raising for Red Cross, Heart Fund and Cancer Fund. She was also a volunteer for the North Adams Hospital Auxiliary.
She leaves two sons Alden Finney of Stamford, VT; and Nathan Finney and his wife, Diane of Stamford, VT and grandchildren- Faron Finney and his wife, Lisa of Kiln, MS; Rebecca Finney Collins of Vernon, VT; Ryley Gaudreau and his wife, Heidi of North Adams; Seth Gaudreau of Clarksburg; Nichole Abair of Hardwick, MA; and Stephanie Howland and her husband, Justin Howland of North Adams; nine great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband David E. Finney, their daughter Martha Finney Gaudreau, sisters Priscilla Lawrence Mullett, and Linda Lawrence Noyes, and her brother Stanley Lawrence Sr and his wife Roberta Scott Lawrence.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside services for Ellison Finney will be held in the spring in Millard Cemetery in Stamford, VT.
