Jane Helen (Gorman) Simon, 94, formerly of Adams, passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday December 28, in Plymouth, MA.
Jane was born on December 1, 1925 in Bennington, VT to the late John “Jack” and Hazel (Tripp) Gorman. She attended school in Bennington. Jane was a longtime employee at A&P Supermarkets in Bennington, North Adams and Pittsfield where she served as a bookkeeper, cashier and lastly as a butcher. She was a communicant of the former St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Adams.
Jane was an avid walker and hiker. She also greatly enjoyed cooking, baking Lebanese bread, sunbathing, soap operas, Macy’s trips, singing Englebert Humperdink, family football parties, Kenny Chesney cookouts, family luncheons at Olive Garden, and anything dessert! She was known as a talented visual artist. One could always rely on her for a timely weather report. She brought vibrant energy, quick wit, creativity and strong will everywhere she went. She shared with loved ones many adages, affectionately called "Sitto's sayings" like: this too shall pass; there's gotta be a better way to make a living; up your nose with a rubber hose; you're my favorite; love you muchly. Most of all she was a proud and beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Jane was predeceased by her husband Simon S.G. Simon whom she married on December 1, 1951 in Bennington. She was also predeceased by her brother John “Jack” Gorman and four sisters Kay Allen, Marjorie Croll, Marilyn Sausville Beckwith and Patricia Gorman. She also was predeceased by four brothers - in law William Croll, Al Allen, Robert McKeon and Yogi Bechwith.
She is survived by her sons Richard Simon and his wife Sara of Leavenworth, KS, and James M. Simon and his wife Debbie of Plymouth, MA, and her daughter Sharon Simon of Adams. She is also survived by her six grandchildren Brie and her husband Ryan Dacey, Ross Simon, Hannah Jane Girard, Jacob Girard and his fiancée Noell, James Paul Simon and Kristina Caitlin Simon, as well as her great-granddaughter Brooklyn James Dacey. She also shared a dear bond with the family pups, namely the late Blue, Simeon, Bo, Maximus and Maverick, as well as Marlon, Watson and Stevie. She is also survived by her beloved sister Marie McKeon, and several siblings-in-law: Maureen Gorman, Anne Herbert, George Simon, Robert Simon, Lois and Phillip Shadyac. She also leaves many treasured nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that loved her greatly right to the finish line. Her family was her greatest accomplishment and joy. That’s how it goes and it do go.
Funeral Services for Jane (Gorman) Simon will be celebrated Wednesday January 8, 2020 at 11AM; at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in Church in North Adams. Burial will take in the family plot in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams, MA. Calling hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home, 74 Marshall St. North Adams will take place Wednesday January 8, 2020 from 9:00 until 10:30 AM.
