JoAnne Shuman

JoAnne Shuman here. I first met Uncle Erwin in 1972 when he traveled to Maine for Tim's and my wedding. Ever since, his keen love of family was forever present. For many years, it became an annual summer event of a true Italian spaghetti feed where his famous meatballs were exported from Pittsfield and his sauce slowly prepared, whether in a Maine kitchen or on a gas grill, or when we traveled to MA for the same. It was part of the family touch to see Judy and then Sarah working side by side for these feasts. Each of us here in the Tim Shuman family has a wooden step stool with our names routered on top and hearts on the side .- just another example of his generous spirit. He will be forever in our hearts.

Please accept our most heartfelt sympathy at the loss of Erwin; he was the most interesting story teller, especially of his time
in the Navy. May you all find comfort and peace in happy memories of him and time spent together. God Bless you all!

Our family will always remember "Ernie" for the many kindnesses he shared with us during the time of his friendship with Grace, our Mother. He was there for us while we lost her, back in 1998 & has kept in touch since. We loved hearing a voice mail greeting from Erwin - he would tell us all kinds of news and then apologize for "rambling on!" We'd listen to his messages over & over, loving that he took the time to keep in touch. When he did Mary's flowers at St. Joe's, he would often place flowers at Grace's for us. A sweet, thoughtful man, who served his country well. He was a good story-teller & we loved to hear of his experiences from WWII. We'll miss you Ernie! Sending love to Judy, Sarah & your family. Sarah, he often spoke of you & was so proud of you!
