Obituary for Nelson J. "Pops" Reopell

Nelson J. "Pops" Reopell, 89 of Pittsfield, MA died on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Berkshire Medical Center.
Nelson was born in North Adams, MA on December 11, 1931 a son of Lawrence and Caroline (Dorvillier) Reopell. He attended Williamstown Schools and graduated from Williamstown High School with the class of 1949.
Nelson was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and served in the US Army. He was last employed as a draftsman at General Electric Co. where he worked for 35 years until his retirement. During his career at GE he received numerous citations and awards including a $2,500 suggestion award in 1970. He was a communicant of the former Notre Dame Church in Pittsfield where he served as a Eucharistic Minister. Nelson enjoyed playing golf and was a longtime member of the Wahconah Country Club, where he served on the Board of Directors. After his retirement, in addition to playing more golf, he enjoyed assisting his children with construction projects around their homes, wood working and carving Santas of all shapes and sizes.
Nelson is survived by his wife, Joan (Andrews) Reopell whom he married on June 12, 1954 and one daughter, Kimberly Reopell Flynn and her partner, Bill Foote of Otis, and three sons, Jeffrey Reopell and wife Laurie, of Pittsfield; Michael Reopell and wife, Gina, of North Adams and Russell Reopell of Falls Church, VA. He also leaves six grandchildren, Nicole, Brian, Alison, Kristopher, Jason and Renee; seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters, Richard, William, Barbara and Larrie Ann.

FUNERAL NOTICE: Due to the COVID-19 circumstances, private services will be held in the spring time and burial will take place in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown.
