Obituary for Fredric Louis George
Fredric Louis George passed away on Tuesday February 16th, 2021 in his home surrounded by family. Fred was born and raised in Williamstown, MA and graduated from Mount Greylock High School in 1975. He attended North Adams State College.
Fred was a jack of all trades, eager to help family and friends. His knowledge of auto body repair and vehicles was superior and had a notoriously good eye for matching paint colors. Fred knew how to fix anything from a shattered college art project to a broken carburetor. He was always happy to help anyone who needed it.
Fred grew up working at his family’s business, Sand Springs Pool. It was there, alongside his father, that he gained his knowledge and expertise of swimming pools, water chemistry and equipment which led to the start of his business, Sand Springs Pool Care. He became “The Pool Guy” for many of the families, residences and businesses in town. He worked hard in the Spring, Summer and Fall enjoying travel with his family in the off season. He loved snorkeling in Mexico and the Caribbean, and could be found in the water mere hours before having to board a plane home, causing panic for his family and wife, Kathi. He would spend hours with his children swimming in the sea, looking at the coral and tropical fish. Whether it was in a pool or the ocean, water was an important part of Fred’s life.
Fred’s best friend was his dog, Maverick “Mave”. They had daily walks at Cole Field and developed life-long friendships with other dog owners and their dogs that were part of the “morning crew”. Their final destination would always be the river, where he would throw rocks for Maverick to chase and dive after.
Fred had an infamous sense of humor. No one was safe from his pranks. He loved creating song parodies and a good “play on words”. His humor carried through in his children, who still love to hide and scare each other even as adults.
Fred had a great appreciation for animation and collected original artwork by Chuck Jones and Friz Freleng. Always a child at heart, he watched cartoons until the day he passed. The Beach Boys were Fred’s absolute favorite band. He read every book about them, and went to see them every summer with his wife Kathi and family. An early tradition started at SPAC with beachballs and marshmallow fights.
Fred loved his wife, children, and grandchildren immensely, and would talk about them to anyone who would listen. He could often be seen in his Jeep with his family driving the back roads of Vermont to the “candy store”. Fred will be missed terribly, but he will always be with us whenever we hear the album Pet Sounds, watch Looney Toons, “go jeeping” or swim in the ocean.
Fred is predeceased by his father Frederick George and mother Helen George (Shogry). He is survived by his wife Kathleen George (Bohmer), daughters, Kira Guidon, Christina Guidon, Sarah George, and son William George, grandson, Cade Morrell and granddaughter, Rowan Holland. He also leaves behind his brother Alan George, and sisters, Elaine Mellow, Carol George, and Beth George, as well as many nieces and nephews. A small celebration of life will be held at a later date.
