Obituary for Raymond Alton Porter

Raymond Alton Porter, 91 of Adams, MA died Friday February 19, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Crystal, Maine on July 25, 1929, a son of Andrew and Sona Grace (Hamm) Porter. He attended schools in Maine and received an Associates Degree in Agricultural Engineering at the University of Maine at Orono.
Raymond was a veteran of the Korean War and served in the US Army.
He worked at General Electric Co in Pittsfield for many years until his retirement. Raymond was a member of the United Methodist Church of Cheshire and was a member of the Berkshire Lodge of Masons. Ray enjoyed gardening and selling his vegetables for 40 years at the North Adams Farmers Market, being named "Mr. North Adams Farmers Market" in 2014. He was also known as the “Pumpkin Man of Alger St” selling his pumpkins, through the honor system, out of his yard. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
His wife was Elizabeth (Vienneau) Porter who died on May 31, 2011. They were married on April 11, 1953. Survivors include two daughters-Gail A. (John) Assante of Adams and Jennifer J. (John) Deer of Guilderland, NY and one son David W. (Michele) Porter of Clearwater, FL. He also leaves eight granddaughters including Sherry Young, Caitlin Porter, Meghan Fuson, Heather Saunders, Misty Labshere, Eva Assante, Angela Cottrell, and Amber Cottrell; eleven great grandchildren- Joshua, Elliott, Holden, Jonas, Brittany, Josie, Brandon, Allison, Chase, Madison and Oliver; one sister-Jeanne Smallwood of Patton, ME and numerous nieces and nephews. His daughter-Constance R. Porter died on August 25, 1967. He was also predeceased by one sister and eight brothers.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral for Raymond Porter will be Saturday February 27, 2021 at 10:00 AM at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery. A live-stream of the service will be available on the Flynn & Dagnoli Facebook Page. Calling hours at the funeral home are Friday from 4-7 PM.
