Obituary for George William Fischer

George W. Fischer Former Chief of Police of Clarksburg.
George William Fischer 73, of Clarksburg, MA. died Friday March 12, 2021. He was born in North Adams on December 7, 1947 a son of the late George Henry Fischer and Florence (Norcross) Fischer and attended schools in Clarksburg and North Adams graduating from Drury High School with the class of 1966. George continued his education at the former St. Joseph College in Vermont and graduated with high honors with a degree in Business in 1968. George was employed at the Cascade Company, Schmidt Office Furniture Co. both in North Adams and the George M. Hopkins Furniture Store and Funeral Home on Spring St. in Williamstown. George then graduated from the Simmons School of Funeral Service and Embalming in 1975 with high honors and was employed for several years at the George M. Hopkins Furniture Store and Funeral Home and assisted as an EMT for the Ambulance Service until 1980. George then was employed at North Adams Regional Hospital as an assistant in the emergency room and operating room and at Aubuchon Hardware Store in North Adams. He was last employed at MASS MoCA.
George was very active in community he served as the Clarksburg chief of police, a former member of the North Adams Lafayette Lodge of Masons serving as Master twice, former member of the Berkshire Shriner's club and Melha Temple Shriner's in Springfield, MA, former Master of the Williamstown Grange and former President of the Clarksburg Lions Club. George was very active in the local Boy Scouts organization and the Golden Arrow Association. He was member of the Living Historical Association in Wilmington, VT. George had great interest in the history of Southern Vermont, Western Massachusetts, Mohawk Trail and enjoyed Beekeeping. He was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in North Adams. George loved all animals.
Survivors include his wife Gail Lynn (MacDonald) Fischer whom he married June 24, 1972 and his son Charles E. Fischer of North Adams. He also leaves his sister Diane Armstrong and her husband John of Adams and a niece and nephew. He was predeceased by a daughter Jennifer Fischer who died July 26, 1980.
Funeral Services to celebrate the Life of George Fischer will take place Tuesday March 16, 2021 at 11AM at the Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home, CENTRAL CHAPELS, 74 Marshall St. North Adams, MA. A calling hour will take place from 10AM to 11AM. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams, MA.
