After a courageous 3 year battle with cancer, Donna Marie Virgilio, 67, peacefully went home to God on May 21, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 28, 1953 in Westfield, MA, Donna was a lifelong resident of Pittsfield. She was the daughter of the late Nicola and Josephine (Meledeo) DiNicola. Donna was born into a big Italian/American family and growing up around her Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins brought her great joy. She was a Parishioner of the former Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church where she attended Grammar school. It was here that she formed lifelong friendships. Donna was a 1971 graduate of the former St. Joseph's Central High School where she continued to form more lifelong friendships. Donna retired from Berkshire Medical Center after a long and dedicated career. She held various positions starting in the cashier’s office, moving to patient accounting, and ultimately retired as the manager of the admitting department in 2018. Donna enjoyed her many trips to Cape Cod, long rides on their Harley Davidson, discovering new eating establishments, going to classic car shows where she made many friends, and having a nice glass of wine...or two. Above all, Donna’s love of Frank, her sons, and her grandchildren resulted in a life that made great sense to her and a loving example to everyone that knew her and loved her. One of the most beautiful gifts that Donna received was connecting with her siblings. She leaves behind her loving husband of 32 years, Frank, her beloved children, John O’Boyle (Amy) of Holyoke, Jeremy O’Boyle of Pittsfield, and Jason Virgilio (Missy) of Texas. She was a devoted and loving Gramma to Alex, Zack, Laila, and Vance. She also leaves behind her siblings Victoria Cadorette (David), Michael Whitlock (Penny), John Whitlock, and her faithful dog Laney. Donna touched the lives of many people and was always a source of joy for her many friends. She made every person she met feel special and appreciated. Gentle kindness was the hallmark of her life. To be a friend of Donnas was a gift to be cherished. She leaves behind a large circle of close friends and extended family. Donna knew with great faith that God loved her and that love guided her safely to Him. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Western & Central Massachusetts for their compassionate and loving care. The family will be welcoming friends at Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home, 5 Elm Street, Pittsfield on Wednesday May 26 between 4-6 pm.
