Obituary for Anthony C. "Tony" Arigoni Sr.
Anthony C. Arigoni, Sr. was welcomed into eternal life in the quiet moments of December 31, 2021 in the loving arms of his wife, Emily. Born on March 29, 1951 in Pittsfield, MA to Marion Arigoni (Morgan) and Roger Arigoni I, he was the third of seven siblings all of whom he loved deeply.
Amongst his countless skills, loving those around him is what Tony did best. He strived to provide his family with love, security, and opportunities. If you were blessed to call Tony husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, or friend, you were loved beyond measure. He had a heart of gold.
Tony met the love of his life, Emily Williams at his grandmother’s home at the tender age of sixteen. Being the gentleman that he was, he lended her his jean jacket that had two dollars in it. She spent it and he spent the rest of his life making sure Emily was his girl.
Tony and Emily were married on December 20, 1969 and shared fifty-two beautiful years of marriage. They had an authentic and profound love for one another. They were blessed with four children: Anthony Jr., his wife Kerry, Peter, his wife Barbara, Jason, his fiance Corissa Bryant, Elizabeth and her husband Joe Vareschi. All of whom cherished their Dad’s friendship, invaluable wisdom and charm. He was a model of integrity and honor for them. Their Dad is their hero.
His grandchildren and great grandchildren were his pride and joy. Tony made sure to impart on them the gift of hard work, the joy of togetherness, the importance of family and what it means to show up. Because that’s what Tony did. He showed up for games, practices, birthdays, graduations, weddings, and births. He showed up for the little and big moments to listen, to play, to make memories. He was always there. He leaves behind nine grandchildren: Bethanie (Dylan) Gammell, Marissa (Chris) Koch, Matthew Arigoni and his partner Aaron, Robert (Sarah Grace) Matte III, Joseph, Emma, Julia, and Vivian Vareschi, and Jackson Arigoni. In addition he leaves two great grandchildren: Oliver and Molly Gammell.
Tony had the greatest stories and never missed an opportunity to share one. If you grew up with him, worked with him, or were a part of his tribe you were most likely in one of his infamous stories. He also wrote numerous songs on his guitar and found peace and enjoyment listening and reminiscing with his favorite music.
He worked many jobs that gave him skills he would use throughout his life, including General Electric where he learned how to be a mason, read blueprints, design and build. In the early 1980’s he became the sole proprietor of Arigoni Construction from which he provided excellent craftsmanship as a mason and builder. It was also through his work that he shared his many talents with his three sons and provided them with opportunities upon which to build their own careers. Tony also owned and managed the Florida General Store with his wife for almost seventeen years. He wasn’t all work though. He enjoyed going to the beach, camping, and taking his girl for long motorcycle rides.
Tony cherished family and that included his brothers and sisters. Dawn and Alan Shippee, his adventure partners, Susan Broadhurst, Dorris (Tom) Welch, Joanne Augello, Roger Arigoni II, and John Arigoni Sr. and their families. Tony always made time and cared deeply for them. They were survivors of many hardships throughout their childhood and Tony’s friendship and dependability were steady constants for them all.
Tony is also survived by his only living uncle, Norman Morgan of Pittsfield. They spoke daily and visited weekly. He was a great friend and comfort to Uncle Norman who will miss him terribly.
Tony had many accomplishments in his life but a life well lived is told best through the legacy left behind. He shared his life generously with all who knew him. As a friend recently said, “His love and caring for those around him filled a room. He always put a smile on my face and his genuine kindness was always present.” Tony was keenly aware of God’s grace ever present in his life and he was grateful. May Tony and his legacy of love, devotion, and gratitude be always present and may we live a life of gratitude to God for Tony, husband, dad, grandpa, and friend, that we have loved him and were loved by him.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial to celebrate the Life of Anthony C. Arigoni Sr. will be celebrated Friday January 7 2022 at 11 a.m. St. Mary's of the Assumption Church in Cheshire, MA. Burial will take place in the spring. Calling Hours at the Flynn & Dagnoli Funeral Home, CENTRAL CHAPELS, 74 Marshall St. North Adams, MA. are Thursday from 4-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations for Pop Cares as he was ever so grateful for the support they have given his beautiful wife.
