Obituary for Arthur John Wallace III

Arthur John Wallace III, 69, of Pittsfield, MA died Friday April 1, 2022 at Berkshire Medical Center.
He was born in New Haven, CT on June 23, 1952, son of the late Arthur John Wallace Jr. and Geraldine Anita (Coveyduck) Wallace. He grew up in Pittsfield and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1970.
Art was an avid bowler and could be found at Ken’s Bowl every Saturday morning from the time he was a little boy. He bowled on the Saturday morning kid’s league and, as an adult, on several men’s and coed leagues. Art reached every serious bowler’s goal twice by bowling two 300 games, one of which occurred in April, 1990. Almost every day, he was out in the backyard playing Wiffle Ball for hours with his children, brothers, and neighborhood friends. He also enjoyed playing softball at the Softball Complex in Pittsfield.
Art always had a swimming pool and he enjoyed hosting family and friends at backyard parties. You could find Art out back with a bucket of steamers and a few beers, enjoying life. In his younger days, Art owned a boat. Many fun summer afternoons were spent out on Pontoosuc Lake water skiing and tubing. When it was your turn to ski, you always had to watch out because he would put you into the dreaded whip where you would eventually have to give up and “fall”. That was his way of getting his turn on the skis!
In 2003, Art and his beautiful wife Robin moved to Rougemont, North Carolina. After one hot summer, he installed a pool. He and Robin continued the tradition of hosting summer parties. He spent many days either at the beach or in his pool, relaxing and playing water games or in the yard playing corn-hole, horseshoes, darts, and volleyball. He really loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and visits with his family and friends! Once the sun went down, you could find Art out on his porch or sitting around the kitchen table, playing cards, kicking back, telling stories, and laughing like crazy (maybe having a cocktail or two). You could also find him at any time relaxing on the couch watching the Yankees, Dolphins, or NC sports teams!
Art worked for Adams Super Market while he was in high school, and then moved on to Price Chopper, where he became grocery manager. He then purchased Greenridge Variety in Dalton and owned the store until he sold it to move to NC. He was last employed as a frozen food/dairy manager at Harris Teeter Supermarket in NC where he worked for 18 years until his retirement.
Art was the proud owner of a 1980 Ford F100 pickup truck and, in October, 2021 when the decision was made to move back to Pittsfield, he and his brother David got to enjoy the ultimate road trip home in his truck! (Not without some little mishaps along the way!)
Art had some major health conditions and Robin did an amazing job in helping Art to live his best life! Art’s strength, stubborn personality and sense of humor were always present, even to his last days. He will be forever in our hearts, and we will miss him every single day. He is now with his daughter and other family members who have passed before him, and we know he is resting in peace.
Art is survived by his wife Robin J. (Freitag) Wallace whom he married on March 25, 1998; one daughter, Heather L. Kinnas of Apex, NC; two sons, Michael S. Wallace and wife Minna of Durham, NC and Daniel C. Wallace and wife Julie of Mechanicville, NY; and two step-daughters, Dawn Harrington and Kimberly Falco, both of Adams, MA. He also leaves seven grandchildren, Clarence Johnson IV, Kyle Johnson, Cooper Wallace, Allie Wallace, Matthew Wallace, Connor Kinnas and Chase Kinnas; six step-grandchildren, Jordan Harrington, Chase Christopher, Sophia Sumner, Traylee Harrington, Ryan Bednarz, and Gena Falco; two brothers, David Wallace and wife Jane, and James Wallace and wife Sheila, both of Pittsfield; three sisters, Geraldine Baeder and husband Scott of Auburn, MA, Joan Toomey of Lanesboro, and Sharon Shields and husband Leo of Pittsfield; and many nephews and nieces, including Melissa Albano and Leanne Davis, who showed him their special love by being there with him every day over the last month of his illness. He was predeceased by his daughter, Katheryn Wallace and son-in-law John Kinnas.
