Obituary for Judith Ann Smith (Pearson)

Judith P. Smith of Pownal passed away on May 6 at the age of 84 after a brief illness.
A native of West Hartford, Connecticut, she graduated from William Henry Hall High School and attended Boston University. She moved to Stamford, Connecticut and worked at Dunlap and Associates, where she met her future husband, E. Harlin Smith. In New York, she was a stay at home Mom to their two children for several years, after which she volunteered at and then was hired by the Ethical Culture School. In 1976, the family moved to southern California, where she worked for The Rand Corporation and then for The Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a division of NASA. At JPL she progressed from group secretary to Voyager Project Secretary to Division Secretary, eventually ending up working as Administrative Assistant to the Director and Group Supervisor of the Director’s Office staff.

After her husband retired, they moved to Pownal, VT, in 1993. Judith volunteered for several years for the Milne Library’s annual book sale and is a past member of the Garden Club. She became an avid fan of Williams College basketball and hosted a dinner for the team for more than twenty years. She began quilting in 1996 and co-chaired the Quiet Valley Quilters annual Quiltfest for about twenty years as well.

She is survived by her husband of 58 Years, E. Harlin Smith, a son Thomas and his wife Allysonne of San Francisco and their three daughters, Jillian, Holly, and Caroline; a daughter Venetia and her husband Joseph Greenhalgh of Pownal, VT, and five grandchildren who will miss her very much at their weekly Game Night: Grant, Archer, Ian, Meredith and Dane Greenhalgh. She was predeceased by grandson Ronald Joe Greenhalgh.
