Obituary for Norman Leon Goodermote

Norman Leon Goodermote, 79 of Monroe, MA died unexpectedly on Tuesday May 10, 2022 in Readsboro, VT while working in the yard of a friend's home.
He was born in South Williamstown, MA on September 1, 1942, a son of Franklin Henry Goodermote and Edith (Shephard) Goodermote. He attended local schools.
Norman was employed at General Photo in Williamstown, MA, GS in Wilmington, VT, Yankee Rowe and was last employed by the Town of Monroe where he worked until his retirement. He was an active member of the Readsboro Baptist Church for 50 years and was the president of the South Readsboro Community Club. Norman was a talented artist and enjoyed watercolor painting. He also enjoyed fishing and gardening. In his younger years, he enjoyed square dancing and raising farm animals; he was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors and was a skilled jack of all trades. His hardworking attitude and determination was inspiring to all.
Norman and Sandy welcomed children into their home through the Fresh Air Fund. This program introduced Tony and Pinky Weeks and Anthony Jones into their hearts and they quickly became “adopted” children and lifelong friends. Norman enjoyed sharing his love of country life and farming with them.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Sandra Carole (Lavanway) Goodermote, whom he married on June 20, 1970 and two daughters- Mearlene Edith (Daniel) Filkins of Bow, NH and Madelyn Jean (Stanley) Dykes of Lanesboro, MA and one son Matthew Alfred (Marie) Goodermote of North Adams, MA. He also leaves 5 grandchildren- Metri Dykes, Antoinette Dykes, Elijah Goodermote, Jacob Filkins and Quintin Filkins; six brothers- Franklin Goodermote of North Adams, MA; Harold Goodermote of Wales, MA; James Goodermote of Lumberton, NC; Thomas Goodermote of North Adams; Albert Goodermote of Becket, MA and Jerry Goodermote of North Adams; two sisters- Rose Bates of Hinsdale, MA and Isabelle Harwood of Savoy, MA and Nieces, Nephews, Grandnieces and Grandnephews. He was predeceased by one brother and two sisters including Alfred Goodermote, Virginia Goodermote and Grace Goodermote. He was predeceased by his “adopted” son Tony Weeks, as well.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The Funeral for Norman Goodermote will be Saturday May 14, 2022 at 1:00 PM at the Readsboro Baptist Church. Burial will be at a later date in Monroe Cemetery. Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA are Friday from 4-7 PM.
