Obituary for Joseph Lawrence Calderella Jr.

Joseph Lawrence Calderella Jr., 93, of Pittsfield, MA passed away Sunday June 5, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Pittsfield, MA on November 1, 1928, a son of Joseph Lawrence Calderella Sr. and Jennie (Lachina) Calderella. He attended local schools and graduated from Pittsfield High School with the class of 1946. After graduating, Joe enlisted in the U. S. Army, serving 3 years as a Military Police Officer, stationed in Colorado.
Following his service, Joe returned to Pittsfield and was employed by General Electric Co. for 39 years, as a draftsman, until his retirement in 1988. He was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Joe loved golfing and bowling and was a member of the GEAA. For decades he actively participated in, and managed, various bowling and golf leagues - continuing to golf into his nineties. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club and the Sons of Italy. He also enjoyed playing cards and was a lifelong New York Yankees baseball fan. Devoted husband and father, Joe recently celebrated his 59th wedding anniversary and continued to maintain a loving and supportive relationship with his children and grandchildren. He followed his grandchildren's activities online and was their biggest fan.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine (Macchia) Calderella, whom he married on May 25, 1963 and one son- Joseph Lawrence (Jennifer Dallmeyer) Calderella III of Westfield, MA and one daughter- Gina M. (Brian) Farrell of Feeding Hills, MA. He also leaves five grandchildren- Joseph E. Calderella, Molly Hansen, Mia E. Calderella, Jonathan R. Farrell, and Sarah R. Farrell; one sister- Lorita (Clyde) Decorie of Pittsfield and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his sister- Antoinette Gomes.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Joseph L. Calderella Jr. will be celebrated Thursday June 9th, 2022 at 12:30 PM at Sacred Heart Church by the Rev. Steven Montesanti, Pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. A calling hour at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St. Pittsfield, MA will be held Thursday from 11:00 AM to 12 Noon.
