Obituary for Nancy M. Towne (McFerrin)

Nancy M. Towne, 81, of Williamstown died on Friday, November 18, 2022 at Berkshire Medical Center. She was born in Fayette County, PA on February 13, 1941 a daughter of the late Charles W. & Rachel (Lawson) McFerrin.
Nancy attended the University of Massachusetts where she majored in Chemistry. She was primarily a homemaker, providing for her family at the Towne Family Farm. Nancy worked at the former Agway store in Williamstown and sold produce at the Williamstown Farmers Market. Nancy was the longtime director and teacher for Williamstown Vacation Bible School. She was active member of the First Baptist Church of Williamstown where she served as a deaconess, was involved with Kids Club and taught and directed Sunday school, provided Christmas greenery, wrote and directed an Easter Play, and filled in with a sermon or two. Nancy also studied for the Rev. Billy Graham Crusade as a counselor when it came to Pittsfield Massachusetts. She enjoyed spending time with her family, bible study, gardening, painting, and leading not only her family but also many, "unofficial" adopted family to better understanding of Christ.
Nancy leaves her husband, David A. Towne Sr., daughter, Melanie Murphy and grandchildren, Dana Murphy, Alys Cannon and her husband Caleb, Jenni Murphy, and Amanda Towne. She also leaves her great grandchild, James David Cannon as well as her siblings, Patrick McFerrin and his wife Chrys, Rebecca Vechik, Rachel Shilito, Daniel McFerrin and his wife Maureen, George McFerrin and his wife Sharon and Michael McFerrin and his wife Trudy as well as her in-laws Richard and Marilyn Schlesinger and Judy Towne. Also leaves Charles and Jacqueline Schlesinger, Lynn Samuelson, Cheri Towne and many cousins, nephews, nieces and relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her son David A. Towne Jr, grandson Shane David Towne, son-in-law Steve Murphy, brother Donald McFerrin and brother-in-law Leland Towne Jr.

FUNERAL NOTICE: A memorial service to celebrate the life of Nancy Towne will be at 10:00 AM on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at First Baptist Memorial Church in Williamstown. A fellowship lunch will follow at the church. Burial will be at a later date.
