Obituary for Rachel Alma Viens (Timoney)

Rachel Alma (Timoney) Viens, 97 of North Adams, MA died on Thursday January 19, 2023 at her home.
She was born in Adams, MA on April 29, 1925, a daughter of Walter and Alma (Tremblay) Timoney. She attended North Adams schools and graduated from Drury High School in 1943.
Rachel worked at New England Telephone Co and Buttons & Bolts Fabric Store. She was last employed at the former Sewing Nook. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilt-making and crafting. Rachel was a good cook and always enjoyed cooking for family and friends, especially at the holidays. She loved to travel, especially on cruises and family vacations.
She was the widow of Francis Xavier Viens who died on November 2, 2007. They were married on August 2, 1947 and celebrated 60 years together. Survivors include her daughter, Barbara A. Viens of North Adams, with whom she made her home; and two sons- Francis X. Viens Jr. (Corinne) of North Adams and Richard A. Viens (Christine) of Clarksburg; and 4 grandchildren- Tanya (Shawn) Derby of Hancock, MA; Jason (Amanda) Viens of North Adams; Erica Viens of Adams and Kate (Dan) Mendez of North Adams. She also leaves 4 Great grandchildren- Xavier Alvarez, Jordan Mendez, Gabrielle Derby and Hope Mendez; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, John "Jay" Viens in 1993; two sisters and two brothers- Ruth Timoney (1920); Barbara Hayden (2019); John Timoney (1924) and Walter Timoney (1978). FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Rachel Viens will be celebrated Wednesday January 25, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in Southview cemetery. Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS WEST CHAPELS, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA are Tuesday from 5-7 PM. Memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or the charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
