Obituary for Ethel Elizabeth Chilson (Quinn)

Ethel Elizabeth ("Betty") Quinn Chilson passed peacefully on April 22, 2023, surrounded by family. She was born in North Adams on December 20, 1924, the eldest daughter of the late George L. Quinn and Ethel Drillio Quinn. She attended Drury High School and Russel Sage College in Troy, NY. Betty married Robert D. Chilson of North Adams, her beloved husband of 55 years.

She leaves her brother James Quinn of Northampton, MA, daughter Judi Tartaglia and husband Peter Tartaglia, son Robert Q. Chilson and wife Susan W. Chilson of North Adams, son John D. Chilson and wife Nancy F. Chilson of Avon, Connecticut and daughter Joann C. Garner of North Adams along with 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Betty was predeceased by her brother, George L. Quinn II and her sister Joan Quinn Tucker.

Betty enjoyed 98 years of good health. She had a keen interest in and deep loyalty to North Adams; it was home to her. And she enjoyed the years she worked at the hometown family business, Quinn's Wallpaper and Paint. Betty maintained to the end a sharp and inquisitive mind.

She had a full life, never long enough, full of love and surrounded by her loving family. She was forgiving; she had a generous nature. She instilled in each of her children the importance of being humble, kind and charitable to others and she was a living example of those values. She was an attentive listener with a great memory for details. She seemed never to forget a name, a past or present event. Conversations with her were always enriching. Her wise counsel and guidance she so generously provided throughout her lifetime were special, helping her siblings and children navigate life more confidently.

Betty was laid to rest in a private, family ceremony. She will be deeply missed.
