Richard Peter “Dick” Tworig, 80, of North Adams, MA died Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Williamstown on March 3, 1936 a son of the late Stanley and Bernice (Davis) Tworig. He attended schools in Williamstown graduating from Williamstown High School in 1955. He attended the University of Massachusetts in the Turf Management Program, graduating in 1967.He was a veteran of the US Army and earned the level of Sharp Shooter. While in the Army he held several golf course records across the country.
Dick was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church and took part in the Adoration. He was the Superintendent of the Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown for 30 years. He was last employed at Williams College in the Buildings and Grounds Department, retiring in 2005. He was a lifetime member of the Taconic Golf Club. He was an accomplished golfer holding the former course record at Taconic for many years . He was a member of the National Golf JC.
Survivors include his wife, the former Rosalie Benoit whom he married on September 29, 1962 in the Notre Dame Church in North Adams. He leaves a daughter, Michelle Nolet and her husband, Joe of Cary, NC and a son, Richard P. Tworig II and his wife Lisa of Pembroke, MA as well as four grandchildren, Ashley and Brittney Tworig and Lauren and Alec Nolet. He also leaves a sister, Irene McHarg of Adams and a brother, Stanley S. Tworig Jr. of Stamford, VT and Nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He was predeceased by a three sisters, Dorothy Lamont, Shirley Tworig, and Joan Jzyk and one brother who died in infancy, Robert Tworig.
FUNERAL NOTICE: A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Richard “Dick” Tworig will be celebrated at 10a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at the St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Burial will follow in the Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown, MA. Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 12, 2016 from 4-7p.m. at the Flynn and Dagnoli Funeral Home, West Chapel, 521 West Main Street, North Adams, MA.
